The Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate was a fighter aircraft manufactured by Nakajima, a renowned name responsible for producing the primary army fighter aircrafts like the Ki-27, Ki-43, and Ki-44. Equipped with the 2000 horsepower-class Ha-45 engine, this aircraft boasted excellent speed and maneuverability. Furthermore, it was equipped with potent weaponry and armor.

By the end of March in 1944, its formal adoption was confirmed, and it was dubbed the "Great East Asia Decisive Battle Machine". The Ki-84 saw extensive action in mainland China, the Philippines, Okinawa, and in the defense of the Japanese homeland. Notably, in mainland China, it displayed superior combat performance against opponents like the P-51 Mustang, even temporarily regaining air superiority.

However, post the commencement of mass production, issues arose due to the decline in material quality and manufacturing skills, which subsequently affected the performance of components like the engine. Despite these challenges, roughly 3,500 units were produced, complementing other aircrafts like the Zero and Hayabusa.

Post-war, the Hayate was tested in the United States and was highly praised as the "Best Japanese Fighter Aircraft that appeared in the Pacific War."
